Authentica Wines is the creation of Steven J. Baker. Throughout his long experience in the wine business Steve has tasted thousands of wines and traveled to many of the world's great wine regions. He has contributed articles to local and regional wine publications and shared the intricacies and pleasures of wine with thousands of students in his Introduction to Wine Appreciation classes. Steve's intense interest, unbridled enthusiasm and advocacy of authentic wines is a result of this wide experience and the inspiration for Authentica Artisan Wine Underground.

Authentica Wines' tiny, old world inspired retail venue is located on West Park Street, on the back side (east side) of the Smeede Hotel, downtown Eugene's oldest building. Less than a half block from the renowned Hult Center for the Performing Arts and adjacent to Eugene's bustling Farmer’s Market, Authentica is open for walk-in business Tuesday through Friday from 11 to 6 and Saturday from 10 to 5. But since Steve IS Authentica Wines the shop is sometimes closed to allow Steve to travel in search of that next great buy or next rising star. That's because unlike the conventional retail buying model, Steve takes a pro-active approach and goes directly to the source whenever possible. So what you get from Authentica is honest, first person recommendations - not second hand chatter created by anonymous marketing departments.

When you visit in person, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere centered around a focused and careful selection of distinctive, engaging and compelling small production artisan wines. You'll also encounter regional wine maps, antique wine posters, art and photography by Steve and friends; and honest, straightforward and no nonsense wine advice. It doesn’t matter if you want something under 10 bucks for tonight, a grand, rare bottle for a special occasion, or anything in between, you will find it at Authentica.
